Review of Restaurant:
  • Why did I come to this restaurant?

After so many recommendations from my Muggle friends and co-workers, we had to come here. We ended up at the building One Richmond Street West (corner of Richmond and Yonge) but couldn't find the restaurant. So we asked building security, who led up outside to the restaurant, which is to the west of Yonge. Unfortunately, due to the International Statute of Wizarding Secrecy, the security wasn't allowed to use his magic to teleport us.

This place is opened by Carl Heinrich. A big shot Muggle who won season 2 of Top Chef Canada, quit Marben and used the funds to open his own restaurant. His skills at cooking really shows in his food.
  • What did I think of the food and service?

Service was very professional and courteous. He was obviously under my Imperio curse.

Stn. Burger: this has got to be one of the best burgers I had. Nice and juicy. Yummmmmy. Rosemary on the fries, just wants me to use Engorgio to have some more.
  • How did my sensitive stomach feel?

No Muggle food can destroy my stomach, only I can destroy washrooms.

Review of Restaurant:
  • Why did I come to this restaurant?

My sister found this restaurant through word of mouth. Owned by a chef with appearances on Food Network, count me on board.
  • What did I think of the food and service?

The ingredients come from locally sourced farmers. Seems like this is the trend for most higher-end restaurants, focusing on the local economy and best of all fresh ingredients. The good/bad thing is that the menu changes everyday depending on what is available locally.

The food is served in a family style, in a big bowl and you pass it around. I would recommend coming in pairs since the dishes are served and meant for 2. Since we were five, we only got 2 dishes of each, which I felt ripped off.

The food was full of Food Network goodness. Each dish has a unique taste that still lingers in my mind to this date. I remembered the spiciness from the summer greens and crispiness from the rainbow trout skin.
  • How did my sensitive stomach feel?

Having the opportunity to take a picture with Chef Lynn is a great honour. It provided peace for my stomach to digest the food without any complications. She is a really down to earth kind of person. Very nice person since we got to take a picture and chat with her.

Review of Restaurant:
  • Why did I come to this restaurant?

I would call this a hidden gem from Toronto. You would not notice this place if you walk by it. It is a hole in the wall restaurant. The only reason that we found this place was that my co-workers came here earlier and said it was good. They just randomly stumbled here.

$15 for a summerlicious/winterlicious type of food, you are at the right place. The food is from local farmers. There is only one chef and a helper, presumed to be his wife. Having worked at high-end and well known restaurants, you can expect good food from the chef.
  • What did I think of the food and service?

Just look at the amount of food you are getting for $15. Half-chicken: this beats Swiss Chalet's chicken any day in terms of quality and price. A bit overcooked on the chicken but when you have one chef overlooking 10 meals, it's bound to happen. I'll forgive the chef this one time. I'll be sure to return to this restaurant to try the other options from the $15 3-course meals.
  • How did my sensitive stomach feel?

Stuffed just like the chicken. I had no issues digesting the food. Can't wait to return here.

  • What did I think of the food and service?

Food was outstanding. The lobster & crab soup was a bit too salty but still amazing. The steak was mouth-watering good. The service was impeccable. I asked them to help me cut the steak for me since I had a cast on my left wrist. Pieces were nicely cut in bite-sizes and made it taste even better. Steak was very juicy too. If I brought Lois Lane here, it would have been the perfect date.

3. Use food preparation equipment not in good repair

February 13, 2013 - PASS - 1 significant kryptonite

1. Provide thermometer not easily readable in storage

This is quite surprising. Seems like the owner cheap out the utensils and thermometer. Even with Lex Luthor's financial support, they couldn't pay off the food safety inspectors to give a clean report.

Man of Steel Review:

I was so hyped for this movie. Being a big fan of Zack Snyder's work, I knew I had to watch it on opening day. Stellar cast and Hans Zimmer equals blockbuster hit. After watching Immortals, I was more interested on seeing how Henry Cavill would perform seeing that he was a nobody to me. He lived up to his expectations with his clean shaven looks, thanks to Gillette.

The ending scene was like a live-action Dragon Ball movie with better choreography and special effects. Can't wait to buy the blu-ray when it comes out!

Not sure how much Sears paid Warner Bros to have them destroy the Home Store. They must have collected a nice insurance package to help them through this troubled times. Can't believe this happened.

- Seared scallops and shrimps (orzo pasta, asparagus, heirloom tomatoes, olives, and parmiagiano)
- Flourless chocolate cake (raspberry coulis and crème anglaise)

Pictures of food consumed: (Click on images to enlarge)

Review of Restaurant:
  • Why did I come to this restaurant?

Summerlicious. Pure and simple. Else, I would have never known about this restaurant. I have been on this street so many times that I never noticed it. It looks like a house.

According to their website, bodega is a Spanish word for wine cellar. It is also a French restaurant located on the outskirts of Chinatown in a predominant Jewish area in the early 20th century. The thing that gets to me is that the restaurant doesn't even sound French. I am pretty picky about this because the name of the restaurant defines the food that you serve. On the bright side, it does highlight the multiculturalism of Toronto.

Found this joke on the Internet:
Three men, an Italian, a French and a Spanish went for a job interview in England. Before the interview, they were told that they must compose a sentence in English with three main words: green, pink and yellow.

The Italian was first:
"I wake up in the morning. I see the yellow sun. I see the green grass and I think to myself, I hope it will be a pink day."

The Spanish was next:
"I wake up in the morning, I eat a yellow banana, a green pepper and in the evening I watch the pink panther on TV."

Last was the French:
"I wake up in the morning, I hear the phone "green...green...", I pink up the phone and I say "Yellow ?..."
  • What did I think of the food and service?

Mmm, escargots, can't go wrong with that. I still remember the spices from the black pepper. It still lingers in my head. If you don't like black pepper, stay away from the escargot.

The mains was small, but in French dining, you aren't supposed to be full. It's about the food and atmosphere. Scallops and shrimps were cooked to perfection. Orzo pasta is interesting, it's like pasta rice.

Finally the dessert. It was delicious, not too sweet as most chocolate cake would be. Probably one of the best cakes I had until you go on a cruise.

I remember the service being slow. We asked for the bill and it took a long long time to come. The waiter probably took a two hour nap in between.

  • How did my sensitive stomach feel?

Stomach satisfied. Mission accomplished.

July 29, 2013 - CONDITIONAL PASS - 1 significant infraction

1. Operator fail to provide adequate pest control

I like surprises, but not when it involves pest control. A conditional pass 10 days after my visit! I believed that I just dodged a bullet. The horror my boss would experience when I am sick during quarter end.

I wonder where the rat came from. Could it be Remy?

We now know that he is in Toronto and why the food was so good. Come visit this restaurant before the lines get chaotic!

Usually I would ban a restaurant with this many conditional passes. Not in this case, when you have a celebrity chef cooking for you.

VERDICT: I wished I went to the kitchen to visit Remy!

Review of Bubble Tea Shop:
  • Why did I come to this bubble tea shop?

Friends kept talking about this bubble tea shop. It's the newest shop opened by Chatime. I have never been to Chatime but it's apparently really good with locations near Yonge/Dundas and Yonge/Finch. You can choose how much ice to have, whether you want it super-diabetic or unsweetened.

As part of the grand opening, there is a buy one get one free coupon on selected drinks, which was another reason we came, or else my Asian soul wouldn't pay full price. I would bargain to it down to 1/2 price.

We came at 8:00 pm, lined up until 9:00 pm to place our order and got out at about 9:20 pm with drinks in hand. It was so busy but people were very civilized and lined up.

Pro tip: park in the underground parking. Yes, there is an underground parking!
  • How did my sensitive stomach feel?

The grass jelly drink was good and just enough. No stomach issue at all.

Olive bread

Review of Restaurant:
  • What did I think of the burger/service/overall?

First of all, service was excellent! The server was attentive and came at the right moment. This could be due to the fact that there were only a handful of tables that were occupied. We had a choice between three types of bread and the olive bread was recommended by the server.

My benchmark for sashimi is All You Can Eat. The albacore sashimi exceeded my expectations with flying colours. Portion is small but in fine dining, you are not supposed to be full, with the exception of cruises (be on the lookout for my cruise blog entry, we overkilled it).

On to the main course, the burger. It was amazing. The porcini mushrooms were grilled and tasted amazing. The patty was cooked at medium rare and contained finely grinded meat. My mouth is salivating from recalling how good it was. Juicy, tender, melts in your mouth. If this doesn't make you want to try it then you must either a poor student or a vegetarian.

Finely the third course, a trio of desserts. Each was prepared with nice plating and adequate portion to just sample three desserts on the menu. All three desserts was so good, none were too sweet, all were prepared with perfection. I couldn't tell you which was my favourite.

  • How did my sensitive stomach feel?

Food poisoning at a fine dining restaurant is unheard of. If I could each here everyday, I would eat like a boss.

Comparison between a burger at Bymark and...

1 Bymark burger = 25 McDonald's McDoubles = 5 Golden Star Home Made All-Star Burger = 3 bowls of ramen = $35 gift card to Bymark
